Polystyrene is a synthetic polymer made from monomers of the aromatic hydrocarbon styrene. Polystyrene can be solid or foamed.

General-purpose polystyrene is clear, hard, and brittle. It is an inexpensive resin per unit weight. It is a poor barrier to oxygen and water vapor and has a relatively low melting point.

HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE (HIPS), a modified version of polystyrene (PS) is an amorphous thermoplastic material that can be used in lower hear applications. It offers ease of processing, high impact strength and stiffness. MPI stocks HIPS in white only in .030”, .040”, .060” and 1/6” thicknesses.
